On December 11, 2024, the Center for Retirement Research (CRR) at Boston College announced that the Public Plans Database (PPD) has been updated with Fiscal Year (FY) 2023 data. The PPD is a comprehensive database of about 230 major state and local government defined benefit (DB) pension plans.

The newly released update includes detailed annual data from 2001 through 2023 for the largest U.S. state and local pension plans based on financial reports released as of September 2024. The sample accounts for about 95% of state and local pension assets and members in the U.S. The next PPD update is scheduled for June 2025.

The PPD is developed and maintained through the collaborative efforts of the Center for Retirement Research (CRR) at Boston College, MissionSquare Research Institute, the National Association of State Retirement Administrators (NASRA), and the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA).
